Message from the President

Happy New Year, S R N !

Welcome to a new year of the Sewing Referral Network. I hope your year and business have gotten off to a great start - I know mine have, thanks in HUGE part to my listing in the SRN brochure and our website (whence people can also view my website.) A new year, a new president (me), a new meeting place (as of October, the TACtile Arts Center), the Creative Festival coming NEXT WEEK, and much more for the future.

I hope all members have received in the mail the card with the meeting dates for the year, thanks to Toni Fitzwater. I haven't yet been able to sit with Dianne Denholm of TACtile Textile Arts Center to iron out more particulars of our relationship with them, but I personally hope to teach some classes there. I'll let you know (maybe by our meeting next Thursday, Jan. 31) as soon as I have more news for us.

Now that we have these new, professional- looking brochures, we will try to focus this year on getting more of them out to different locations, both for soliciting more business for our individual selves, and for drawing new members. In fact, let's brainstorm these ideas at next Thursday's meeting. I'd like to start the year with as much input as possible. So instead of a speaker this month, we will share such things as: why did you join SRN? What places have you, or can you, put brochures? Where else could we advertise (some are in place already.) You will also receive info on our website, what is available and the costs to you. So come with ideas, and questions (that the Board can answer!)

Your hard-working Board just met, and we have decided to increase the annual dues for individual membership to $65 per year. This has been discussed for a few years, so we felt it was time, especially since our "technology" (brochure and website) provide such a good value for members. Along with that, we will eliminate the $5 monthly luncheon fee (so, for regular luncheon attendees, there is no change in dues.) Also, we will make the due date the same for everyone, namely March 1st each year, and prorate the dues for those who have already paid (in the last six months, for instance) or will be paying. This will simplify record-keeping for your volunteer officers who deal with this.

Thanks to those many people who have volunteered their time for covering our booth at the Creative Festival. Hope to see many of you there!

I'm looking forward to seeing you also at our Thursday meeting.

Meeting Location Directions

Location: TACtile, the new Textile Arts Center
7777 E Hampden Ave., Denver, CO 80231,
Tamerac Square Shopping Center
www.tactilearts.org

Here's how to find it:
Tamerac Square is a shopping center located 2 miles east of I-25 and Hampden Avenue. Take I-25 to Hampden. Turn east at the top of the exit. There are movie marquees on the left that you will see and a Whole Foods on the right (in Tiffany Plaza). Go through the stop light that looks like it turns into the center and turn left immediately or if you have gone too far, turn left on Tamerac Drive and then into the center. You can park anywhere, but if you want to park near the entry to TACtile, drive to the far northwest corner. If you come in by the theaters, walk all the way to the back (north) on the first floor. TACtile has taken over the old Hyde Park floor space.

What to bring:
There are restaurants all around Tamerac from the Old Chicago variety to a Starbucks inside the shopping center. Please bring your own lunch and drink. We will not be serving food, but hope to enjoy dining together as we hold our meetings.
