Message from the President

Looking forward to seeing you at the January 29th meeting at TACtile again. I'm pretty excited about the Sew Expo (replacing the Creative Festival) February 5th-7th. For the first time in a long time I've signed up for many classes (to check out the top teachers, since I may become a teacher, too). I have helpers for the set-up and take-down; have you signed up for a slot at our booth?? Let Judy Farmer know which two-hour slot you'd like. (Remember there are free passes at the front table for our booth workers.) I'll be there the whole time as back-up, between classes. Should be fun! Also it's a time to promote your own business, as well as SRN. We hope to make some "free tickets" for a "free meeting" to hand out to interested parties. Why not wear something eye-catching you've made, as a conversation-starter? You know I will!

Also, you will notice as you enter the TACtile space, there is a display from SRN and all the other guilds that are TACtile members; really inspiring. It will be up until February 28th. Actually there is still PLENTY of room on the display board of ours for YOU to put up a photo or two of your work! (Put your card with it.) We already have "live" samples of costumes (guess whose), quilting, embroidery, but home decor, tailoring, and some of the other areas need representing, don't you think? Let me know if you can donate something to show off.

On Saturday, Jan. 31st, TACtile is asking the guilds to do some kind of "demonstration" in conjunction with their display, from 1-4 p.m. Who would like to come for an hour, or some portion of that time slot, to demo something they do? I'll volunteer for some part of it, but again, SRN is really about a huge variety of sewing techniques or areas.

Don't forget about the first Wonderful Wednesday night of each month, when SRN is the host for whoever wants to stop by and sew/chat. January 7th we had a bunch show up, not even counting the TACtile Education Committee that was meeting at the same time! Fun from 5 - 8 p.m. at TACtile (catch up on all the little interesting stuff we never have enough time for at the luncheon meetings!) Now is a good time of year to start thinking about paying your annual dues, actually due in March. Toni, membership chair, will have notices for us each at the January meeting, or if you miss that she will mail them to you. Then please mail the check to our new Treasurer, Carla Gosney. Get all that sewing done so you can come to the January 29 meeting! "Show and tell" is always fun, you know. See you there.

This Months Event

There is a new kid in town in the sewing machine world. Rocky Mountain Sewing and Vacuum is now the Denver area's Pfaff and Brother dealer. They also carry Riccar and Miele vacuums.
Rob Richards, (part owner and general manager), and Jeff Bloemke, (service area manager), will be here to fill you in on all the new details of the stores.

Membership Showcase

Business Name Tags

If you would like a name tag for your business you can order them through Toni Fitzwater. The name tags are 1" x 3" and available in gold, silver, and various colors. They have a magnetic attachment, so no clothing damage. The cost with the engraving is $10.25. If interested please send Toni the information you want engraved, 3 choices of color (they do not have all colors all the time), money, and she will order it for you. You can get her address from a brochure, the roster or email her for it.

Use of SRN Logo on Members Sites

As a member of The Sewing Referral Network, you can play a big part in helping to grow the organization! The Board of Directors has approved the use/display of the new SRN logo on member sites for more exposure. If you need a Web-ready JPG image of the logo, please e-mail MaryJo Regier at mj@mjregiercopywriter.com with "SRN logo request" in the subject line.

If you do display the SRN logo on your private business site, please use the format guidelines below, along with a link to the SRN website (either link the logo or the URL or both!), to ensure professional exposure consistency:

Membership Roster

Members may pick-up membership rosters and brochures at any meeting. If you can't make a meeting and need brochures, please contact one of the SRN Board Members for alternate pick up locations. New rosters will be printed for the July & November 2009 meetings (subject to change). If you can not attend a meeting and want a roster or brochure, please email the request to Toni at toni_fitzwater@msn.com and she will mail you a copy.

Notice that all Membership Dues are being changed to March 1st each year, beginning in year 2009. How does this work? SRN memberships up for renewal are being prorated through February 2009, when all existing members change over to the same March 1st renewal date.
