February 2007 Greetings! Next Meeting is Thursday, February 22nd from 11 am to 1 pm. Join us to connect with other sewing enthusiasts who share your passion. The meeting fee is $5 and a menu is available. Meeting Location: Please call 303.346.3388 to make your reservations (by Monday, 2/19/07) and remember to press 1 when using the automated phone system. Otherwise, your message will not be recorded. Meeting Summary It's time for the February meeting already. Yes, this Thursday. Our program will be all about PRICING. Susan Matthews will do most of the presenting, but, trust me, I'll throw in my two cents. This is a particular soapbox of mine which some of you will remember from many years ago. We will be discussing how we arrive at our pricing and the impact our pricing has on the business. At the Creative Festival I heard many comments on the issue of pricing, from theories to justifications. My soapbox got bigger, taller, weightier. I think you will want to attend this meeting. (Don't forget to call in the reservations so we have enough chairs.) We won't be sharing price lists so don't concern yourself with that aspect. After one meeting at Perkins, the feedback was positive to the location and food issues. I have some refining to do with the setup, format of the meeting, timeliness of everything. You know, the "minor" details! The Creative Festival was active and successful from the viewpoint of increased SRN exposure. We could witness our achievement by the number of yellow bags blanketing the crowd. Thank you, everybody, for your help before, during and after the booth to make this a success. I hope most of you took time to attend the classes and visit the vendors at the Festival. It is an excellent marketing tool just to be seen and be known to the participants. Please take note of the request for volunteers to help with a fabric sale at Emily Griffith. We will be splitting the proceeds with EGOS as we have done in the past to support their fashion program. This is a great volunteer opportunity if you have no other way of engaging with SRN. Of course, first we want to see you at meetings, then utilizing the referral system within the group, and then helping in whatever way you can. Pay it back or pay it forward! See you at the meeting. Pricing your work SRN's own Susan Matthews, proprietress of Call Susan! professional alternations company, will be our special guest speaker this month. You won't want to miss this exciting presentation as Susan discusses the topic of pricing your work. She will examine the intricacies involved in setting the "right" price, and the impact our pricing has on the industry. Donated Fabric Sale When: Saturday, March 3, 2007 SRN needs:
Please note that no credit cards will be accepted so plan accordingly. Please contact Gwenith for additional suggestions and to sign up for one of the worthy functions above. She can be reached at 303.504.0509 or email at CoGigialter@aol.com. Emily Griffith Opportunity School Vicky Nolan of EGOS relayed that there are some classes that are really hurting right now. If you have already taken a class and would like a refresher, or if you would just like to learn something new, please consider signing up for any of these classes: Alterations, Pattern Grading, Advanced Garment Construction, Pattern Drafting Knits. Pattern Grading and Pattern Drafting Knits are both taught by our beloved Ilse Romoth, who trained in Germany under the old apprentice and journeyman system. Ilse’s classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am to 3:30pm. Alterations is taught by Pam Waters. She teaches this class Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5pm to 8pm, as she is working doing alterations during the day. Advanced Garment Construction is being taught by Janet White. She is new to our family, but is lots of fun, and has her own custom design studio. Her alma mater is CSU where she earned a B.A. in Fashion Design. Deb Henriksen from Equillibrium is also taking her class and is enjoying it immensely. Janet’s class is on Thursdays from 9am to 3:30pm. Please help those students, who are already signed up for these classes, continue to participate in them by signing up for one or all of them as well! Thank you SO much!
