April 2007 Greetings! Next Meeting is Thursday, April 26th from 11 am to 1 pm. Join us to connect with other sewing enthusiasts who share your passion. The meeting fee is $5 and a menu is available. Meeting Location: Please call 303.346.3388 to make your reservations, by the Monday of the meeting week, and remember to press 1 when using the automated phone system. Otherwise, your message will not be recorded. Meeting Summary Ah, spring has prevailed. Dire predictions of a blizzard did not materialize on my birthday though many still apply superstitions to Friday the 13th. Frozen tulips thawed to bloom riotously proving the power of sunshine. Adding color as spring does to our brown and white landscape lends cheer to nearly everyone. This leads me to our board discussion of adding color to our marketing brochure. (How did you like that segue?!) In case you were wondering what happens at board meetings, I'll fill you in. Better yet, join the board and learn first hand! We are discussing outsourcing the marketing brochure in part because we are outgrowing the current format. We have more member listings, more business card sized ads and would like to offer our sponsors more opportunities to advertise their businesses. If any of you advertise in other resources, you know that this is the best value in town. It has been that way because many hours of volunteer effort go into the brochure (and the entire organization). Eventually no amount of technology and volunteer hours can keep up with the need. Our speaker in January, Mary Jo Regier, is working with us to develop a larger, full color brochure that will give us more room to spread our message. Some costs will increase marginally. Primarily we will pay for the increase with more sponsor ads. This isn't a done deal yet. Feel free to email your thoughts. I embedded a certain amount of guilt in the above paragraph. As you know, we have no attendance requirements for SRN or requirements to help run the organization. You are welcomed to pay your membership and get listed in the brochure without further involvement. However, it is impossible for others to recommend you if they don't know you or your body of work. So, you are encouraged to join us for a meeting so we can get to know you. Find out how SRN has increased members' businesses. Furthermore, our board turns over yearly so there are plenty of opportunities to exercise your administrative skills. See you at the April meeting! This Month's Event Do you have a serger? Do you need a serger? Do you WANT a serger? Should I get a home serger or a commercial serger? What is a serger anyway? Kate McMillan and Patrick Arnold, owners of Above and Beyond Sewing in Thornton, will be here to answer these, and any other questions you may have. Hope to see you there. Only a few days left....
