Message from the President

Happy Spring to All,

I hope it is spring and not a break in winter. The sunshine is so wonderful. Our March meeting was attended by 20 and we all made it work in the gallery. We should be in the meeting room from now on.

I want to thank all the members who have helped us with the membership renewal list.

As Carla's condition has been critical, and not improving, we made the decision to get the financial records. We were able to get the checkbook and some documents from Carla's husband. Unfortunately, he could not find statements or records from before she was hospitalized in February, and she had not communicated any payment information to any of the other board members. Since we were not able to get records we had to call on the membership to let us know if they had paid, thank you for your assistance. We are working on getting the list down on the not confirmed paid. It has been a time-consuming process for LeNore. Thank you for your persistence in getting our records current. Please let her know your payment status if you received her email on April 21. It should be just a couple more weeks until we have a more accurate membership list. We will have rosters at the April meeting; they may have a few corrections, but are as accurate as we can get at this time.

The new brochures will be at the May meeting. Hopefully, Judy Veyera has your changes and money. If you have anything you want changed contact her immediately. I am not sure what date she goes to press, but it is in the next few days.

Thank you Christine Hoyt for providing a meeting program that was enlightening about the process of creating high-end men's wear. I am sure I was not the only one who thought that was a lot of work and a great deal to learn to break into the field. It was interesting to learn how a member developed a self- supporting business.

Karen Neimi is working on the new look for the web site. It will bring our web site into the 2010 decade in style.

Always stitching and referring, Toni Fitzwater, President

What would you like to see in our free monthly publication? Would you like to write something or contribute project ideas? We'd love to hear your thoughts about each issue - good or bad!

Sewing shortcuts- How do you save time when you sew? How do you find time to sew? Share your ideas here and let's figure out ways to keep the good needle going even when we're out of time.

The best way to store your rotary cutting mat is to use a pants hanger from your wardrobe, the type with the clips at the top. You can then hang it up vertically on the back of your sewing room door without any risk of it getting damaged, plus it also gets it out of the way when you're not using it.

Sewing Tip of the Month...
Seam Imprints: To avoid seam imprints on the right side of the fabric, place a strip of brown paper bag between the seam allowance and the garment before pressing.

Program for April

Mary Reynolds is a costumer who has worked on more than 75 theatrical, opera and dance productions in her career. Last year her work had her touring Europe. She will share with us some of the fascinating details that will appear in her future memoir, tentatively titled: How I dressed the cast of Music Man on $250 and brought back the change.

Update on Carla Gosney

Hi All:

I talked to Ron Gosney today, Carla is still in ICU at Littleton Hospital and on the ventilator. They did a trek and she seems to be breathing easier. She has lost most body strength, but he said she is regaining some strength and can move her arm from the elbow down so can work the nurse button now. He said they will probably move her to Porters Hospital Monday. He said they have a department that specializes in Carla's ailment and they will be able to start her in a rehab program. Doctors have told him it will be eight months to a year (hopefully) before she can get back to her ol' self. She is pretty down, as would be expected, but she enjoys messages, cards, etc. from her SRN friends. So keep her in your prayers and keep sending messages to her house and Ron takes them up to her.

Toni Fitzwater, President

Promoting Sewing Skills

Website Update

Debbie Tejada is still awaiting final word on your selection of the three initial concepts she sent and I'm still awaiting more member testimonials, member creation/product photos and member's client testimonials, if possible! I will use stock images if I must. I did get a great sponsor-member endorsement (Regency Tailors) and a couple member testimonials and images, but could definitely use more! If you have room in your newsletter for a gentle reminder to members, I'd appreciate it!

SRN SPRING/SUMMER BROCHURE Please keep the changes/deletions/additions coming with respect to members, sponsor members, ads, et al. I begin working on this next week to ensure you have it for your May meeting. Thank you!

Please holler if any questions/concerns regarding these matters. My best, Mj
