Member Judy Farmer brought to my attention that we are entering our pre- adolescent or tween years this year, this month. Ah, 'tis fitting that I am your prez at this auspicious moment in time! Since, however, I have no genetic code for "fun", Co-Prez Tracy Kreiling suggested a celebratory spirit at June's meeting to include (though unconfirmed), cookie like treats, balloons and gift certificates from our sponsors. And now for a word from our Founder, Anita Larson: "Happy 10th Birthday SRN! Ten years ago I called a few sewing associates and we had our first meeting at my home. We discussed many ideas to start an organization of sewing professionals. We wanted to have resources to refer our clients to who requested sewing specialties outside our own area of expertise. At that time, I had a sewing business specializing in faux furs, custom sewing and alterations. When I was asked by clients, "/Do you do drapes?/" or /"Will you make this slipcover?"/ I wanted to refer them to a professional with confidence instead of just looking in the phone book or online. I also wanted to connect with sewing professionals to share resources, learn new techniques and just talk 'shop'. An idea became a brainstorming session and this grass-roots organization grew rapidly in a few months. It was clear that many other sewing enthusiasts were seeking the same thing. It's wonderful to see how the organization continues to evolve and be so active in the community. Full credit goes to each member, board members and presidents over the years who value the importance of such a unique organization. Sewing Referral Network - the name says it all!." See you Thursday. This Month's Event Mark your calendar so you don't miss this months key speaker. Kaylene Silvester is a Grand Master Modern Doll Artisan.
