June 2008 Greetings! Next Meeting is Thursday, June 26th, 2008 from 11 am to 1 pm. Join us to connect with other sewing enthusiasts who share your passion. Meeting Location: Please call 303.346.3388 to make your reservations by Monday of the meeting week, and remember to press 1 when using the automated phone system. Otherwise, your message will not be recorded. Message from the President Dear SRN members, We had a good May 29th meeting, with 16 attending. We started off with announcements from Diane Denholm of TACtile Textile Arts Center. See the TACtile website http://www.tact ilearts.org/, for the latest updates! She told us the details for the Member Showcase that will be an opportunity for all members (individuals need to join for $25 and get items displayed for free, or pay $35 to be in the Showcase!) Times, dates, receptions, see the website. TACtile is looking for a teacher for basic sewing classes. There were not enough signed up for Sandra Betzina, but she is rescheduling for later this year or the spring. Our Marketing director, Karen Niemi, was not present but we received and distributed our new brochures. If you missed getting yours, call any Board member and find out the nearest source; several of us have a stash of them. As always, think of old and new places to give a supply to. Always interesting news came from our members. Some are so busy they can't take referrals! (I vote that SRN members just not "participate" in the economic "hard times" -- I can't even say the "R" word.) Betsy suggested that we tell our clients to "recycle their favorite clothes" (i.e. get them altered) as a money-saver and a "go green" effort (that's effortless!) She says it works! One of our three new members already received two projects through her SRN membership. May Shaw, retired as ever, had a suggestion for offering our services to a program to benefit at- risk girls (alterations on their uniforms) -- contact her or MarisaE@excelsioryc.org. Your Board enjoyed a very productive meeting June 10 at the home and business of past President Christine Hoyt. After much discussion we voted to produce the brochures twice a year, in May and October, and also look into getting the website redesigned to match the brochures more closely. And, listen to this: for the future we need to look into the cost of making the brochure bigger -- we're growing! All that research was assigned and will be brought back to the Board at its September 9th meeting. Looking ahead, we will be voting in October for the new Board members, and they will take over their duties in March, after we get through the Creative Festival in February. (Ahh, now that's using the old noggin, eh?!) Tracy (V.P.) and Marci (Pres.) are willing to stay on (giving some continuity); new member Carla Gosney has offered to serve as the new Treasurer; we have a volunteer for the Newsletter editor; and some other changes made by the Board will make the Marketing (i.e., the brochure) director much less involved. So, ask questions and think about how YOU can help make this enterprise more beneficial for you and us all. Now, get back to the machine and finish that project so you can get to the SRN luncheon and share yourself with us! (P.S. Show and tell is always welcome.)
