Message from the President

Dear SRN members,

Did you miss last month's meeting? The "speaker" was our own Susan Matthews with great ideas for generating business, supplemented by Christine Hoyt and several other members. All about getting our name, and phone number, in front of people and keeping it there. For instance, through name labels in our work, cards in the pockets, following up with customers with a call, card, or letter, using thank you notes, and many other tips, usual and unusual!

There is lots of news from TACtile Textile Arts Center, from the Advisory Board meeting I attended August 5th. Three items I'd like to pass on.

First, if you do not get TACtile emails, you can be on their email list for free, go to the website and sign up.

Second, "we" (TACtile and its member guilds, SRN being one) are about to launch "Wonderful Weekly Wednesdays." The TACtile space will be open from 6 - 9 pm for "hanging out," sharing creativity, meeting members of other guilds, doing our work in the presence of other creative types, etc. This is something some of us really wanted, as I recall, from a conversation at a luncheon a few months back. We were stopped by the possible cost; now TACtile wants to sponsor it, for free! (Well, we may put out a "donation basket," but in any case I think there is terrific value in the whole concept. It's kind of what I saw in TACtile from the start, for myself.) We need to pick "our" night, maybe second or third Wednesday, to space it away from our luncheon, then have one or two of us (I'm one!) commit to be there to open and close the place. What do you think?!

Third, TACtile is trying to raise funds for more programs and marketing. Would you or anyone you know donate $5 to TACtile? Probably a few. But what if in return they got a Macy's shopping pass for 20% or 10% off all day on September 20th? Macy's is "celebrating a national day of support for local non-profit organizations in our community." Good for them...and good for us, and for TACtile. I will have ten passes to sell next Thursday at the meeting, and many more are available. Oh yes, the pass also includes a chance to win a $500 gift card. Any takers? And anyone else interested in supporting TACtile and helping out friends who shop at Macy's?

See you at the meeting. Come with feedback, and new ideas and new friends are always welcome.

Marci Heiser, President

    Member Showcase

New member Liisa Wilson, of Lissa B Wilson Custom Clothing, would like our professional input regarding irons.

She would like to purchase a new iron, on a budget of less than $200, and would really appreciate learning which brands and types our members have had good and/or bad experience with.

    Please e-mail lissabw@comcast.net or call Liisa at (720) 810-3317.

    Reminder

    A reminder to members:
Have you picked up and distributed any of the new brochures lately?

We're printing and distributing more brochures than ever before. As always, we still need the members help in assuring the locations are kept stocked and help with the identification and placement of brochures at new locations.

If you haven't already, please remember to email Karen Niemi (creative.stitching@comcast.net) with locations you are currently stocking the SRN brochures. Do you know of a great new shop that would be perfect for the SRN brochures, but you're uncomfortable asking? Please let us know.

We need to finish compiling an updated list of our distribution sites and need your feedback.

    Has Your Email Address Changed

Please click the link at the bottom of the newsletter that reads Update Profile/Email Address. Then send an email to Toni Fitzwater at toni_fitzwater@msn.com, so she can update the membership roster and website.

    Membership Roster

Members may pick-up membership rosters and brochures at any meeting. If you can't make a meeting and need brochures, please contact one of the SRN Board Members for alternate pick up locations. New rosters will be printed for the March, July & November 2008 meetings (subject to change). If you can not attend a meeting and want a roster or brochure, please email Toni at toni_fitzwater@msn.com to request it and she will mail you a copy.

Notice that all Membership Dues are being changed to March 1st each year, beginning in year 2009. How does this work? SRN memberships up for renewal are being prorated through February 2009, when all existing members change over to the same March 1st renewal date.

Have you calculated your savings? The new yearly membership fee of $65/year equates to only ~$5.42/month - what a deal, especially with the monthly meeting fees changing from $5/month down to no cost. Add to that your marketing presence on the website and in the new full color brochure! What a great organization - gotta love it!
