October 2008 Greetings! Next Meeting is Thursday, October 30th, 2008 from 11am to 1pm. Please join us to connect with other sewing enthusiasts who share your passion. Meeting Location: Message from the President Dear SRN members, Our speaker was Cary Johnson of the Jefferson County Sheriff's office, Fraud Unit, educating us on how to avoid identity theft and answering so many questions, we kept him for an extra half hour! It was informative and very practical (I'm already doing a lot of what he suggested) and he was very fun and easy to listen to. Thanks Cary, and to Tracy who finds and arranges our speakers. The October meeting speaker should also be engrossing: women's personal safety. Bring any guests you can, this is not to be missed for any of us and our loved ones. This week I attended two meetings I didn't even find out about until Tuesday: a free seminar on five essential business skills, and a Business Women's Network in Boulder. I'm thinking there may be some of us whose businesses will be needing "all the help they can get" in the coming months and years, and I was there to look into how these people/ organizations can assist us. We can get the speaker from the business skills workshop to come speak to us; at the next meeting I'll share one tip with you that can make a big difference right away! The Boulder group may not be the best location for me (being in Westminster), but I'm looking into it anyway, and I'll let you know the conclusions. Also, do not forget the first Wednesday of each month, SRN is the "host" for the get- together at TACtile, from 5 - 8 pm (note change in hours). We had five of us show up for October 1, and it was low-key and fun. Bring projects to work on, show and tell! Our next Wednesday will be November 5th. Of course, any of us can show up for the other Wednesdays, and learn about some of the other guilds that are members of TACtile, too. Also, don't forget to look at the TACtile news for upcoming events and opportunities. Hope to see you, and guests, at the October 30th luncheon (bring your own lunch, and maybe a snack to share?!) Marci Heiser, President This Months Event Personal safety is important for everyone to know. We are never to old to learn new ways to save ourselves from "the bad guys." New Logo
The Unveiling of Our New Logo Copywriter/graphic designer MaryJo Regier worked hard with our Board of Directors to create a fresh, new logo for our organization's fresh, new look. "My main objective with the new SRN logo was to keep the text/font treatment, as it has been in circulation now for nearly a year, already garnering recognition that I did not want to detract from," says MaryJo. "My secondary objectives were to create a contemporary, yet classic design with visual appeal that speaks to your audience; to create a design that is easily adaptable for Web use and any other printed collateral pieces SRN might need; and perhaps most importantly, to keep the logo simple yet memorable. I believe we've succeeded in those objectives and it was great working with the Board to arrive at the new look of SRN." MaryJo was called to task to design a new business card and membership card for our SRN members, on which you can see the new SRN logo in use! Both cards feature the brand new SRN logo and were designed to tie in visually with the SRN brochure and sponsor brochure as complementary collateral pieces to help spread "brand identity." New Newsletter Template Also unveiling this month is the new SRN Newsletter template. Stay posted, as we'll potentially be adding a "Phase 2" with some additional picture storage capability and alternate graphic lay-out.
