October 2009 GREETINGS! Next Meeting is Thursday, October 29, 2009 Please join us to connect with other sewing enthusiasts who share your passion. Meeting Location: Message from the President Dear SRN members, Have you got all your Halloween costumes done yet? No, I don't either -- two more to go. This fall I've been busier than all year, and only two Halloween costumes in the mix. Whatever happened to "retirement"? It's always fun to get together each month and talk shop, and get some new information from our speakers. Last month Chris Esposito, President of Apparel Design Partners, was great. I've been quoting her all over, to clients and fellow seamstresses, to wit, we are a RARE species and deserve every (large amount) of pennies we can charge. So, yes, I'm charging more. And valuing ALL our talents so much more. I'm also glad to know someone to send clients to, who can be better served by her with her specific expertise and experience. This month's meeting will include Jon Groat talking about how we can use those "pennies" we make to make a more secure future for ourselves in the financial area. (See notice below.) Also, I'm alerting you all that Rosemary Weiler, formerly of "Magic Moments" with Judy Farmer, will be bringing a bunch of patterns for mostly formal wear, that need a happy new home. So come prepared to adopt some. Your Board just met and finalized the up-coming brochure, which will be available at the November 19 meeting. And remember, our December meeting will also be changed from the last Thursday, to December 10. At that holiday luncheon, we will do a potluck (yum) and a "sewing room" gift exchange. I have been acting as the liaison from SRN to the TACtile Board of Advisors, which meets every three months, and includes all the member guilds. As I will also be replacing myself as President of SRN in March, I am looking for someone to join or replace me as liaison to TACtile. If you'd like to check it out, come with me to the Nov. 12 "Liaison Appreciation Dinner"! We learn what the other guilds are planning, and share ideas for mutually beneficial activities. Call me or talk to me at the luncheon. SRN is also looking for a new V.P. (Program) and Marketing (brochure) chair, to start in March. Your Board meets only four times a year, so it's a fun, fairly easy gig. Let us know of your interest (or curiosity.) Program Information 30 MINUTES COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE!! Come join us for a free Financial Seminar and received complimentary Financial Needs Analysis. It can show you where your finances stand today and what you need to do for tomorrow. IT'S SMART, IT'S FREE AND IT COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE! Don't forget to bring your show and tell, so the membership can see what everyone else is up to.
TACtile Art Center, Rocky Mountain Region continues to offer Tactile experiences. An October weekend with Sandra Betzina! Meet the one and only, exuberant, international instructor and Vogue Pattern Designer at TACtile! Trunk Show and Personal Fittings October 30 - 31 and November 1st. Holes, Knots, Tied & Dyed; Contemporary Lace Design There are a lot of events, classes and more available to all of us. If you know if an exhibit or show that would interest our membership, forward the details to toni_fitzwater@msn.com, the editor, so they can be included. SRN Board of Directors The SRN year is half over. The current board of directors is looking for members interested in experiencing the boards positions. The board is made up of: Treasurer - collects all money and pays the bills. Consider serving on the board. It is a rewarding experience and a way to help SRN continue to grow. Donation Requested Wanted: Donation or modest cost adjustable dress form. The volunteer who organizes Denver's Brides Against Breast Cancer gown sale needs a form to do repairs to the donated dresses before the next event in 2010. She's beginning the work now since there will be hundreds of dresses donated. Brides Against Breast Cancer receives donated bridal gowns from shops and gently used gowns from brides. These gowns are sold over a weekend event to multitudes of caring new brides. The events are run by volunteers and all proceeds go to grant wishes for women with terminal breast cancer. If you can provide a dress form or want to sell one, contact: Promoting Sewing Skills Our membership is a great source of knowledge. Several of our members are sharing their talents by teaching individually and in businesses. Who better to learn from than our members. If you are involved in a sewing education opportunity and want it in the news letter, forward the details to toni_fitzwater@msn.com, the editor, so it can be included.
