Message from the President

Dear SRN members,
Novembers' meeting comes up in a hurry, doesn't it? But it's good -- the program will be another rouser, I think. Our speaker will be Dhyan Atkinson of Satisfaction By Design and she will cover the FIVE ESSENTIAL SKILLS YOU NEED TO FIND CLIENTS. Sound applicable? I attended an evening seminar she gave recently, plus a consultation for myself. We will give her 45 minutes to identify the Five Essential Business Skills all small business owners need to master to be successful. See the meeting description below for more details. But when you see her blog is www.Marketing4Introverts.wordpress.co m, doesn't that sound like some of US? Be at TACtile at 11am to share news on Thursday, and hear Dhyan at 12:15pm.

Our meeting last month was newsy, as usual -- not enough time to chat with all our creative members. And our speaker, Barbara Scott, seemed to generate lots of interest in her topic, Personal Safety for Women. Scary? depressing? maybe a little, but so emPOWERing to learn the simple ways to deal with some all-too-common scenarios. We had plenty of laughs, too.

Please note the neat things coming up on the TACtile schedule. And for that extra dash of fun and schmoozing we don't get enough of at the Thursday meetings, come to the Wonderful Wednesdays at TACtile from 5 to 8pm. Every Wednesday, groups of various sizes and composition (types of fabric artists) meet to work and chat. SRN is the "hostess" for the first Wednesday of the month (do join me), we had three of us Nov. 5th: two of us SRN people and one "guest." Other Wednesdays, there may be as many as 12 or so busy bees completing projects and sharing creativity. Too much fun to miss, and productive as well. BTW, non-members of TACtile are certainly, even eagerly, welcome too. Spread the news! See you Thursday.

Marci Heiser, President

Member Showcase

CHRISTMAS SHOW EXPERIENCE
by Toni Fitzwater

I took part in the Colorado Country Gift Show at the Merchandise Mart in Denver on November 7, 8, and 9. It ran from 10-9 Friday, 9-8 Saturday, and 10-6 Sunday. In addition to LONG hours, high dollar booth price, people were not spending. This was not a money making endeavor for me. The show was busy at times, and other times it was totally dead. People were drawn to the quilts and embroidery work in my booth, but wanted to share their quilting experience, or relate a quilt story. Very few purchases. People offering food products seemed to be doing okay at the show. If you are planning to do any Holiday shows, I hope you have every success, as it is my experience that money is tight and being sparingly spent for gift items.

From kitchen towels transformed into new dining chair cushions and kids' character bed sheets into cool roman shades.... Here's some examples of how Threads Home Decor customers have been cutting costs by re-using everyday items and re-covering tired, old cushions into new statements of art on nursery glider-rockers and ottomans!
